Celebrating art + uniqueness of Niwot, one year at a time.
Why Not Niwot? Exhibition
Niwot has a way of staying with people. The streets that draw you in, the shops you keep coming back to, the trails that feel like yours. Why Not Niwot? began as a way to celebrate exactly that: the places, corners, and quiet moments that make this town what it is, seen through the eyes of the artists who know it.
Now in its 15th year, the annual juried exhibition invites artists to interpret Niwot in their own voice: in paint, watercolor, acrylic, gouache, and mixed media. Each piece must reflect what Niwot means to the artist, and artists are encouraged to share a short statement about that connection alongside their work.

Closing Reception & Awards Night
Friday, September 11, coinciding with the Niwot Art Walk. The evening includes live music from the Niwot Community Semi-Marching Free Grange Band and People's Choice voting, with the winner announced before the night is out.
The Grand Prize winner's work will be featured on prints, cards, and a commemorative 15th anniversary wine label, with proceeds benefitting the Niwot Cultural Arts Association and Niwot Hall.
Lamppost Banners
Past Why Not Niwot? grand prize winners are now on display along 2nd Avenue and Cottonwood Square. The lamppost banners rotate through 15 years of grand prize artwork, paintings and drawings that capture Niwot as artists have seen it, season by season and year by year.
Each banner features the winning piece alongside the artist's name and the year they took the prize. Walking the block, you get a kind of compressed history of the show: the subjects artists return to, the ones that surprise you, the corners of Niwot that keep showing up in new ways.
The banners are a collaboration between the Niwot Cultural Arts Association, the Niwot LID, and Osmosis Gallery, and a reflection of what Why Not Niwot? has built over 15 years — a body of work that belongs to the town.
